Rungsted High School - Hard Fun.
Global - Social - Challenging
At Rungsted High School we use new innovative learning methods. Our school is part of an the UK Comenius Program on innovation, and teachers as well as students at Rungsted High School will gain new insights and update qualifications in ways of teaching and learning. Our visions are to be global, social and challenging.
Hard Fun* is also an integral part of the vision at Rungsted High by which we want to put an impact on making the learning process fun, yet at the same time it has to be serious and hard, so the students are challenged in a modern learning environment.
Background and Surroundings
The school which was founded in 1900, is situated in the heart of Rungsted, with the idyllic scenery of a forest and the sea nearby. Everyone at Rungsted High can enjoy plenty of fresh air and green scenery all around. Right across the street from Rungsted High, you will find a broad variety of sport facilities; the ice-skating rink, an indoor swimming pool, the tennis- and squash courts, soccer fields, a skate ramp just to mention some. This is ideal, not only, for our talented and dedicated students who are part of the Team Denmark organization but equally so for the many students who have chosen the Physical Education (PE) lines at Rungsted High School.
- Global -
The school is part of the Comenius project. This is a EU-programme, which supports educational cooperation between European countries. Rungsted High School has established contacts to schools in France, Spain, Sweden and Germany through the Comenius project.
We also offer our students the Global Society Class. This is a studyline where the subject’s history and social science are taught in English. This is especially intended to students who are interested in studying abroad or to those who will study in English in Denmark. This class works with many different projects, and have for example had visits by students from the United States.
- Challenging -
Rungsted High School is also part of the Danish Science Schools. This means that we are focused on increasing the interest in mathematics and scientific subjects. Our students here have great possibilities to use their qualifications, for example by participating in scientific contests, both nationally and internationally.
- Social -
At Rungsted high School we do not only focus on the importance of competent and innovative learning. A positive and healthy social life is just as important. To live up to that, there are a large number of social activities at Rungsted High School. Concerts are held with the school’s own bands taking the stage. These events are called Café-Nights, and Spring Concerts. On Café-Nights, the school is filled with students enjoying the music and relaxing after a hard week in school. The school also makes a production of a musical every second year. In the year in between the musicals, there is a “Total Theater” production, where the student’s decide what to do for that year’s musical. They could write one on their own, or be influenced by several others etc.
Every year, the third year students have their prom, where they get dressed up, have dinner at the school, and dance “Les Lanciers”. All these events are arranged by our student committee. Rungsted High School offers the possibility for its students to join some of the school’s sports teams. You can join the basketball, volleyball, handball, badminton and soccer team. Rungsted High School is not only hard but also fun.
Transportation
Close to Rungsted High is the train station which makes it easy to go both north, to the city of Helsingør (from which you’re only a short ferry ride from Sweden), and South to our country’s capital, Copenhagen. This makes it possible for students living far away, to study at Rungsted high School. But if it does not fit in to take the train or the city buses, Rungsted High has just arranged our own school bus, which picks up students living north of Rungsted and drives them to the school, free of charge!
*Hard fun is a concept of learning has to be fun and challenging. Because when we have to learn something it has got to be fun, and by making it difficult and challenging, we will enjoy the learning process more and understand it better.
